Make the Most of OZEV Grant Changes

Are you updated with the latest changes in the OZEV grant? If you are not, know that these changes are important for you to save money, especially if you are planning on purchasing an electric car with an electric charging infrastructure.

In this article, we are going to discuss the recent OZEV Grant changes. So take note of the important details to keep yourself on track.

Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme – EV Chargepoint Grant

First, let’s discuss the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS). As of now, this scheme is no longer open to new applicants. It has been replaced by the EV chargepoint grant.

If you have already opted for the EVHS grant, with your application under evaluation, there’s no need for you to apply with the EV chargepoint grant scheme. EVHS remains open for resubmission until March 31, 2023.

The electric vehicle chargepoint grant or EV chargepoint grant can help with the cost of electric vehicle chargepoint installation at your house.

How Much Will You Get – OZEV EVHS Grant

You will acquire either 75% of the socket installation cost or £350, depending on which amount is lower.

Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Grant – OZEV Grant Gor Business

An EV infrastructure grant gives you money off the cost of wider building and installation work that’s needed to install multiple chargepoint sockets. The task may also involve sockets you’re planning to install for future use. For instance, an electric vehicle infrastructure grant will cover things such as posts and wiring.

You can acquire at least 30 infrastructure grants every fiscal year. Every infrastructure grant should be installed for a different property.

The property should be within the UK. You can’t apply for the grant if you’re living in the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.

You can opt for:

  • Houses and flats
  • Commercial properties
  • Apartment blocks

If you are renting out a commercial property, you can still use the chargepoint for the building’s vehicles and staff. It can’t be utilized by the public.

The Parking Space

Every parking space you are planning to install a chargepoint on should be:

  • off-street, clearly defined and private – it doesn’t have to be within the property
  • can be accessed by your tenant
  • one that you own or are legally entitled to – you may be required to submit Land Registry title deeds as proof

Some installations may require cables or parts thereof that must be set throughout public or private land. You must have proof of all legal permissions and rights before starting the paperwork.

The installer will verify whether your vehicle can charge safely within the parking area.

Other Requirements For An Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Grant

If you are applying for an electric vehicle infrastructure grant, you should:

  • Have it for a multi-home property, i.e. flats, estate buildings with a shared parking lot
  • Install at least a single chargepoint socket for the job
  • Work on at least 5 parking lots such that they have chargepoint sockets and are planning to install them in the future

Before applying, you must:

  • Finish all the required upgrades for the building’s electrical system
  • Setting regular maintenance sessions with the chargepoints
  • Think of how the running costs and electricity will be paid for
  • Ensure the charegepoints can be accessed
  • Include the chargepoints in the property’s risk assessment

OZEV grant ending
Workplace Electric Vehicle Chargepoints

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

The WCS OZEV grant ending is currently applicable to businesses requiring electric vehicle charging points for their employees and visitors. Businesses are eligible for up to £14,000 OZEV grant funding with a maximum of 40 sockets per building.

Businesses will always be eligible for grant funding, although more business groups are being targeted to benefit from the grant and support the nation’s EV charging infrastructure roll-out.

OZEV WCS Grant Scheme Changes Since April 2022

Small accommodation businesses and registered charities can claim a WCS OZEV grant extension of up to £14,000 to enable feet drivers and employees to recharge their EVs.

Commercially let land owners are eligible for a £350 grant funding for every socket, but is capped at 100 sockets every year. The charging points for every parking space location should be preserved for future fleets, tenants, and employees.

SMEs or small-to-medium-business enterprises can benefit from a £15,000 OZEV grant funding for every building; there should be at least five parking bays dedicated to EV charging.

Grant funding can be capped at £500 for every parking bay and EV charging point. Applicants should be able to avail of grants and have at least a single EV chargepoint for the first funding.

Other Changes that Benefit EV Owners At Home

On top of these Grant Changes are other changes that are coming through that help homeowners reduce their carbon footprint. There’s going to be a new OZEV EVHS grant for installing heat pumps at your home. These grants could go around £5,000.

This will help homeowners reduce their carbon emissions and move to more efficient heating sources for their property. In addition, it’s been announced that new homes will need to have charge points installed

Installing Chargepoints at Home

We have a strong pedigree in installing charge points at homes. Make sure that if you do want to have a charger installed, get a grant and quote before the grants run out for your private home. If you’re in a domestic property market – an apartment block or flat, and you are a landlord with a recommendation, be advised on the best chargers to install so you can get the best unit for you and your tenants.
